Ryan Anderson, vice president of digital innovation at global furniture company Herman Miller, shares how the inventor of the ergonomic chair has transitioned from ‘just’ a furniture company to providing software on space utilisation, what technology partners the firm is working with, the evolution of the office space and what clients are asking for.

Founded in 1905, Herman Miller has become famous for its health-focused furniture designs recognised across the globe. The firm has been exploring the use of sensors in the work environment since the late 1990s, to understand how to improve people’s everyday experiences and provide organisations with data-driven insights.

Anderson has had various roles at Herman Miller since 2012, from director of future technology to director of commercialisation & business development for IoT Solutions. In between those roles, Anderson was part of the WeWork clan as vice president of product marketing and head of evangelism.
