Meet the MetaProp Accelerator anchor startups

In the fastest recruitment of anchor participants in its accelerator’s history, MetaProp has chosen three startups from within the co-working, construction and residential property management sectors.

“While these companies were not born of the pandemic, they were forced to think two or three moves ahead in order to come out the other side of it – and thus far, have been successful,” Metaprop said.

The first three startups joining Metaprop’s 2021-2022 Accelerator at Columbia University are:

Stay Open

Stay OpenFounders: Steve Shpilsky, CEO; Andrew Swerdloff, COO; and Alex Morrise, CTO

Location: Los Angeles, California

Description: Calling itself a “Sleep as a Service” platform, Stay Open combines co-working with overnight accommodation, transforming empty real estate into affordable pod hotels and co-living properties. The startup aims to democratise travel while encouraging social connections. Working with cities and non-profits, Stay Open also plans to open affordable accommodation for homeless people in city-owned or leased buildings. Find out more at: https://stayopen.com


Skillit

SkillitFounder: Fraser Patterson, CEO

Location: New York City, New York

Description: Skillit provides construction firms with a network of highly-skilled, technically-assessed carpenters and automates their offer, hiring and onboarding processes. With skills-level job matching, intelligent skills assessments and salary market comparisons, Skillit is a response to the growing scarcity and cost of finding skilled labour. Sugar

Sugar StartupFounder: Fatima Dicko, CEO

Location: Los Angeles, California

Description: An all-in-one mobile app for multi-resident properties, Sugar seeks to transform the residential experience and make it easier for neighbours to socialise with each other. The app includes the ability to do everyday tasks, such as paying rent, submitting maintenance requests, unlocking doors and communicating with other residents.
