essensys has appointed Eric Schaffer, WeWork’s former head of real estate advisory for APAC, as CEO of its new Asia Pacific business.

Schaffer will lead the establishment of the flexible office software provider’s business in the region, drawing on extensive local and industry-specific experience.

Before joining WeWork, where he established and led a regional team, Schaffer had held several positions based in China, including at Cushman & Wakefield, Paragon and Colliers International.

The appointment follows essensys’ recent £33.2m fundraise (£32m net), a significant portion of which will be used to launch and grow the Asia Pacific business.

The company currently operates in the UK, where it is listed on the AIM segment of the London Stock Exchange, and the US. As of January 2021, the company’s revenue has been almost evenly split between the US and UK, with the US business expected to overtake the UK this year.

Mark Furness, CEO of essensys, said: “Launching a market-leading offering in Asia Pacific is an important part of our strategy to capture the global flexible workspace opportunity. We are delighted that Eric will lead our efforts in Asia Pacific, where we have exciting ambitions to become market-leader.

“His deep experience and extensive networks across Asia Pacific will be great value as we build our presence in the region.”

Schaffer said: “I’m thrilled to join essensys and drive the group’s expansion in Asia Pacific, a region where this is a significant growth opportunity and obvious product market to fit.

“Software and technology are key to delivering the flexible real estate solutions that occupiers are now demanding and I look forward to working with a visionary team to help enable landlords and workspace providers capture this growing opportunity.”
