Applied futurist Tom Cheesewright hosted the evening, which saw the winners of the PlaceTech Prize and PlaceTech Startup Prize revealed.
Mike Edge, partner at Mills & Reeve, presented the PlaceTech Startup Prize to LandInsight, producer of tech-powered land sourcing and deal management tools. Max Bengtsson, marketing manager at LandInsight, said: “We’re ecstatic to win the first PlaceTech Startup Prize! When we heard our name called out we all leapt from our seats with pure excitement. After a year of incredible growth and success, this award encapsulates it perfectly. We have a lot of exciting announcements coming up next year and can’t wait to share them with the community.”

Mennor Lammers, chief proptech officer at PropTechNL, flew in from the Netherlands to present the winner of the PlaceTech Prize to Guru Systems. Guru Systems provides data analytics and smart technology for better performing heat networks.
Gilbert Lennox-King, head of business development at Guru Systems, said: “Guru Systems has been getting known in the district heating sector, but getting our message across to the general property industry has been a challenge. It is so great to win the PlaceTech Prize to gain recognition in proptech. I think it was the combination of hardware and software both from a ‘have to have’ and a ‘nice to have’ perspective for landlords that set Guru Systems apart. We are so thankful for the opportunity – it has been a great experience.”
The event and Prize was held in association with PlaceTech partners, Mills & Reeve, OBI, Redwood Consulting and Manchester Science Partnerships & Bruntwood.
Paul Unger, editor of PlaceTech, welcomed guests and announced the publication’s 2019 partnership with Node.
Guests attended from companies including Tech Nation, Equiem, CBRE, Iceni Projects, CampbellReith, Savills, Built-ID, Peel Group, Spaceti, Hilson Moran, GIA North, Cushman & Wakefield, NatWest, Coyote Software, Reed MIDEM, Workman, Malcolm Hollis, PwC, Henry Boot, Apadmi, Liquid REI, Broadway Malyan, Cheshire & Warrington LEP and many more.
The guests were kept entertained by Girl on Sax, a GIF pod – the next level in photo booths – and Mash Machine, which allowed guests to create their own music using programmable cubes.
Later in the evening, Manchester band Mr Wilson’s Second Liners upped the tempo with their unique amalgamation of 90s club classics and New Orleans jazz.
