Promising uninterrupted cleaner, cheaper power to tenants at Symmetry Park Biggleswade, the industrial developer has partnered with BasePower to create its first on-site energy centre.

Located on a greenfield site where the grid is constrained, the 2MW centre will supplement energy available at the industrial park with a range of clean sources, including rooftop solar PV, batteries and a combined heat and power plant.

Tritax has estimated savings of between 5-10% on grid energy bills from its energy centre, while maintenance and repairs are cost-free for occupiers. The developer also has the option of adding extra power if needed.

Operating 10 energy centres across the UK, BasePower specified, designed and procured the project. Rolls Royce acted as principal contractor and Powersystems UK was appointed as the high voltage specialist partner for the electrical infrastructure.

The announcement is the latest in a series of sustainability measures Tritax has taken in recent years to decarbonise its schemes, including achieving net zero carbon in construction across all its construction programmes.

Tom Leeming, development director at Tritax Symmetry, said: “One of the priorities our clients have when deciding on a new location for their business is power.

“As a responsible developer, we realised the need to supplement and enhance the national grid supply to ensure a continuous, robust and greener alternative power supply for our occupiers.”

Dan Poulson, co-founder at BasePower, added: “The need for creation of alternative energy resources has never been greater, and we are proud to have been selected by Tritax Symmetry for the project in Biggleswade along with multiple energy projects on their other sites.”
