The Luxembourg-based construction tech company, which uses naturally reinforced timber to create sustainable buildings, has hired ex-BlackBerry and Tesla executive Margareta Sailer as chief people officer.
Originally from Austria, Sailer has spent a major part of her career in the UK. She has gained experience with the pace of rapidly growing startups since 2006, when she helped scale BlackBerry during its hyper growth across Europe.
Between 2011 and 2015, Sailer led Tesla’s recruitment expansion within EMEA through to becoming a global brand, setting up the company’s recruitment and sourcing team and helping to scale the then startup from five to more than 60 locations in 10 countries.
Most recently, Sailer was global head of recruitment at Lilium in Munich, supporting the organisation in building the company from the ground up and increasing the overall headcount from 30 to 400 in less than three years.
She said she was excited to join Leko “at a moment where the company is on the verge of becoming an international organisation.”
Founded in Luxembourg in 2017, Leko is a construction tech company designing, engineering, and manufacturing sustainable buildings for individuals and communities. Leko’s uses naturally reinforced timber and insulation, combining construction with technical skills and environmental creativity.
Within the sector of construction, Leko says it stands out with its unique, patented constructive system, making it possible to deliver high precision and high performance buildings while increasing living space and optimising construction time.
Sailer will prepare the business for its upcoming scale-up process and find the best people to make Leko a global brand.
Francois Cordier, founder and CEO of Leko, said: “The decision to take Meggy on board as CPO – our first C-level hire – is a strategic and crucial one, equipping us for the next important phase in our journey. Looking at her track record gives an idea of the direction that Leko is heading as an organisation. Meggy’s experience will help us not only to further build our team yet also to establish sales and service channels allowing us to expand worldwide.”
