Hines unveils green venture called EXP
The global real estate investor-developer has formed a global business unit designed to address the disruptive changes in the built environment called EXP by Hines.
EXP represents Hines’ intention to explore and address the shifts underway in real estate, experiment with innovative solutions around flexibility, sustainability and other areas that add value for clients, and expedite ESG outcomes for a more sustainable, livable world.
EXP by Hines is a new function that consists of two business groups:
- Global ESG
- and Global Venture Lab.
Hines has assembled a leadership team tasked with uncovering new opportunities and disrupting the commercial real estate industry.
Doug Holte, CEO of EXP, was a senior partner in Hines’ west region from 1987 to 2009 and has returned to Hines after a career at the Irvine Company, and his own innovation firm AWI (Agile Workweek Investments). Holte said: “EXP by Hines is an engine of growth using the most innovative ideas in capital, culture, and environmental stewardship to connect every stakeholder in the built environment and create healthy, activated communities. EXP is looking beyond the boundaries of real estate to solve complex problems while creating long-term value.”
Global head of ESG, Peter Epping, leads the platform designed to create long-term value by enabling people to thrive in spaces that benefit them and their communities. The team is currently focused on expediting the reduction of carbon in the built world and expanding holistic ESG strategies.
Hines’ new Global Venture Lab, led by Kathryn Scheckel, identifies and accelerates ventures, partnerships and investments that benefit the customers and communities that Hines serves. It includes an industry-leading combination of a venture incubator for early-stage startups and a venture investing arm. Current priorities include the evolving use of physical space, next-generation ESG solutions and revolutionary built-world technologies.
