GeoCom18 looks to solve ‘productivity puzzle’ with spatial data

Registration is now open for GeoCom18, the Association for Geographic Information’s annual national conference, which this year will focus on how location intelligence can transform business performance in property and other industries.

Location intelligence, also known as spatial intelligence, is the use of geographic data to understand patterns and solve problems. This fast-paced, one-day conference in London will explore how this complex data could help British industry to keep up with European counterparts in terms of productivity, a challenge the UK has faced since 2008.

The event will see professionals from property, economics, technology and other sectors, gather to exchange ideas on 8 November at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, London.

Josh Dickerson, chair of GeoCom, said: “Property, place, people – they all have one thing in common: location. When we look at the property or proptech sector, it’s incredibly rare that a project won’t relate to physical location – in fact 80% of all business data contains a location component.

“The question we want to ask is ‘how can companies be more productive and get the most out of the limited resources they have to hand?’ That’s where we feel geospatial data comes in, and GeoCom will see thought leaders from around the world converging to answer this question.”

Speakers confirmed so far include Katie Black, director of policy at the National Infrastructure Commission; Andrew Carter, chief executive at thinktank Centre for Cities; Christina Franken, head of smart cities at mapping platform Mapbox; and Catherine Mealing-Jones, director of growth at the UK Space Agency.
