EDGE Technologies has unveiled Amsterdam West, its newest smart building due for completion in 2021.
The 645,834 sq ft redevelopment is set to feature some of the latest technology in office health and sustainability. The new space has already attracted 2 major tenants – pension delivery organisation APG and Dutch electricity network Alliander.
The striking redevelopment of the Amsterdam West building is the work de Architekten Cie, who designed the original building in the 1970s, as well as EDGE Olympic which opened in May this year.
The redesign will feature a massive glass dome as a central meeting point. A distinctive atrium is a common feature of EDGE projects, and is designed to provide natural daylight with a biophilic design. This multi-functional roof will be fundamental to the building’s climate-control exterior, saving on costs and the building’s energy use.
EDGE is part of Dutch developer OVG Real Estate and is focused on providing ‘a new generation of healthy, technologically innovative and energy-positive office buildings.’
EDGE Amsterdam West’s target is to exceed in the industry standard targeting BREEAM-NL Outstanding certification, which will mean generating more energy than it uses. This will be achieved through the building’s thermal energy storage, solar panels on its roof as well as air and water-cooled heat pumps.
Also key to the new development is the EDGE Technologies platform, which will offer full customisation of the workplace settings, such as lighting, temperature, and space booking. To encourage healthy choices, there will be 4 prominent staircases, and subtly concealed elevators.
Coen Van Oostrom, founder and CEO of OVG Real Estate and EDGE Technologies said of the new Amsterdam West development: “We recognise very well that the growth and success of the economy will depend on drastic and sustainable long-term solutions. The modern-day employee, businesses and, most of all, our planet are in dire need of next-level sustainable and healthy buildings.
“EDGE Amsterdam West will meet and exceed the highest possible requirements of a building in terms of functionality, sustainability, technology and in providing a healthy environment. The project is designed to be a welcoming space where people can and want to work, meet and be inspired every day — a development that perfectly fits within the invigorating transformation of the Amsterdam West area.”
The redevelopment is EDGE Technologies’ fourth project, with EDGE Olympic and a collaboration with Unilever for their first US HQ both opening in May of this year, and EDGE Grand Central in Berlin due for completion in 2020.
EDGE Technologies launched in January 2018. In July of this year, EDGE Technologies moved its HQ from The Edge in Amsterdam, which was built by OVG Real Estate in 2014 for Deloitte, into EDGE Olympic.
