eco-i receives international award from Siemens

Founded in 2011 in the UK’s North West, building integration firm eco-i has received international recognition for business innovation from tech powerhouse Siemens.

eco-i is a partner of the global manufacturing conglomerate, using its products to create intelligent building management systems.

The firm designs IoT products within the HVAC industry and has developed its own software, Com-QR, which is asset management system that creates structure to Building Management Systems design procurement and commissioning. Using standard Quick Response codes, the building occupier receives BMS data across all the systems via the use of a smartphone or tablet.

Commenting on the win, David Hodges, director of eco-i, said: “We’re looking towards the future with regards to what are the requirements in a modern building and trying to break down the barriers for the entry for technology.

“It’s a complicated process that we have within the construction industry, to get from a concept from a client to actual implementation. We sit in the middle, and we facilitate the changes that are needed to make it happen.”

He added: “We’re focused on trying to put as much technology into a building, without increasing the capital cost, because that’s the big barrier. We want to create buildings that are future-ready with features that can be turned on at a later date.”

Carl Ennis, Siemen’s UK CEO, said: “At the heart of what Siemens does is innovation and we rely quite heavily on our partners to drive that innovation into the marketplace. eco-i has excelled in bringing and embracing the innovation in our building portfolio.

“We’re proud to have a UK organisation, whose only been working with us for 12 months, be recognised for that innovative spirit that we all need to do to really drive the markets in the UK. It’s about 10 years since we’ve had a UK winner of any form.”
