Over the holidays 179 of you completed Antony Slumbers’ ‘How proptech are you?’ quiz. Are you mainly dinosaurs, nervous dabblers or tech dynamos?
Here are the results:
Despite the majority being tech dynamos, most still value face-to-face meetings as the ideal way of getting deals done. Having a human element to tech still appears to be an important theme for those starting along the path towards innovation and easing their way into adoption.
However, 89% of quizzers believe that Artificial Intelligence is a superpower that we should embrace as an industry. We saw evidence of this in 2018; JLL developed an AI bot for residential lettings, Knight Frank trialled Proda AI software, Leverton signed up Derwent London and Hammerson started to develop AI software with Cortexica to improve security and safety in public spaces.
The results also suggest the future of retail is experiential, with data playing a big role in providing better insight to what customers want and defining the future of shopping. By utilising data and turning it into analytics, companies have the potential to gain an understanding of how their retail fits within local shopper ecosystems. Flexibility and coworking are buzzwords that are here to stay in 2019 and the foreseeable future, with 155 quizzers believing they are vital ingredients for the future of the workplace, and coworking operators will play an even bigger role in the market. The question is will WeWork dominate the sector or will companies like CBRE succeed with their own versions, such as Hana which is due to launch this year.
