MIPIM PropTech NYC 2019 saw 1,500 delegates from around the globe gather for two days of learning and networking in the city as part of VC firm MetaProp’s New York Real Estate Tech Week. PlaceTech spoke to attendees to get their takeaways from the event.

‘There’s lot of exciting technologies out there, we’re still in the early innings so far as who the stars are’

‘The best panel was the coliving panel, it’s a really interesting product with a lot of energy behind it and something which is really cross-bordered and could be a solution to help the housing crisis’

‘The challenges faced by the built environment are reflected globally’

‘The big challenge is how those startup companies are going to survive the really long sales cycle and the really complex environment to which they’re selling’

‘Sidewalk Labs did a fantastic talk about the cities of the future and how those cities really have to change, and that’s a fantastic partnership of government, tech, developers but also that community engagement to get that story right’

‘How to flex up existing real estate and space-as-a-service has come up a lot, and really how to monetise services within a landlord’s space’

We also chatted to senior figures from specialist funds MetaProp and JLL Spark to reflect on the main events of 2019 and where they will be focusing in 2020.
